Pamukkale, Turkey

Pamukkale, 19km (12 miles) north of Denizili is Turkey’s foremost mineral-bath spa because of its natural beauty, hot calcium-laden waters spring from the earth and cascade over a cliff. Pamukkale means cotton castle, and has also been called the white castle because of the vast whiteness caused by the high concentration of calcite in the water. Travertine sedimentary deposits have created the white terraces, petrified waterfalls and mineral forests that make up the landscape.

The hot springs are heated by underground volcano. The beautiful area of Pamukkale, Turkey, has been used as a healing spa for thousands of years. The healing properties of the area drew people from all over, and the Romans built the ancient city of Hieropolis there. To help preserve the area, hotels access roads were taken down and ma-made pools were created to help in keeping the natural beauty of Pamukkale. Beside, the sacred pool is still there, litered with marble columns from the Roman Temple of Apollo, you can swim in it for a fee. Pamukkale used to be a favorites stop on every backpacker’s trip to Turkey. Adventurous trveller would stay in Pamukkale Town’s small pensions and hotels, bask in the warm mineral water of the trevertime pools, linger over long dinners with drinks in the evening, exchange tales of the road and generally have a wonderful time in this laid-back atmosphere
